About

PetShortlist

PetShortlist exists to cut through the noise in pet products – the exaggerated claims, the sponsored “top 10” lists, and the products that look good in a photo but don’t hold up in daily use.

Every guide here follows the same approach: look at what a product actually does, compare it honestly against the realistic alternatives, and say plainly where it falls short – not just where it shines. Nothing is included because it pays the highest commission; it’s included because it held up to a closer look.

We cover feeding, grooming, health, toys, tech, and everything in between, for dog and cat owners who want a confident answer, not another list to wade through.

How We Choose What to Feature

Every product that makes it into a guide goes through the same process first:

  • Real buying research – current specs, pricing, and availability, cross-checked against genuine verified customer reviews rather than a brand’s own marketing copy.
  • Like-for-like comparison – a product is judged against realistic alternatives in its own category, not against an unrelated “best of everything” bar it was never designed to clear.
  • Honest trade-offs, stated plainly – a budget pick is labelled as a budget pick, and if a popular product has a real downside, that downside is written into the guide, not left out.
  • Ongoing checks – pricing and availability are reviewed periodically after publishing, and a guide is updated if something has genuinely changed since it went live.

Our Standards

  • Research first – every product mentioned is researched against real specs, verified customer reviews, and – where possible – genuine hands-on use.
  • Independent recommendations – commission potential never decides what gets featured or how it’s reviewed – see our Affiliate Disclosure for the full detail.
  • Kept current – product prices, availability, and details are checked periodically and updated if something has changed since a guide was published.

Who’s Behind PetShortlist

PetShortlist is run by a small, independent team of pet owners who got tired of product research taking longer than it should. We’re not a large editorial outfit, and that’s deliberate – staying small means every guide gets real attention rather than being churned out to hit a content quota, and it means we only publish on categories where we can genuinely say something useful.

We’re dog and cat owners ourselves, which is exactly why this site started: too many hours spent cross-referencing reviews before buying something as simple as a scratching post or a raincoat. PetShortlist is the shortcut we wished existed – built now for anyone else doing the same research.
