Pet odour is one of those problems that’s easy to stop noticing yourself but painfully obvious to anyone walking into your home – and most sprays on the shelf only mask the smell rather than actually breaking it down. Simple Solution’s Extreme formula is the best-selling enzymatic pet odour spray in this category on Amazon, with over 45,000 customer ratings behind it – a genuine enzymatic cleaner, not a cover-up scent.
Quick Verdict
Simple Solution Extreme is an enzymatic spray that breaks down the bacteria causing pet odours rather than masking them, rated three times stronger than the standard Simple Solution formula by the manufacturer. It’s the featured pick here because it’s the highest-volume, most consistently well-reviewed enzymatic pet odour spray available – not just fragrancing over the smell.

Key Features
- Enzymatic formula – uses bacteria and enzymes to actually break down the organic compounds causing odours, rather than covering them with fragrance – works on urine, faeces and vomit in around 15 minutes.
- Extreme strength – rated three times stronger than the standard Simple Solution formula, aimed at set-in and repeat-accident odours rather than just fresh spills.
- Gentle on fabric – non-toxic, bleach-free and no-rinse, so it’s safe to use directly on carpet, upholstery and bedding without a follow-up rinse step.
Pros
- Genuinely breaks down odour at the source rather than masking it, with over 45,000 customer ratings and an Amazon’s Choice badge backing that up.
- Non-toxic and bleach-free, so it’s safe for regular use around pets and children.
- Effective on old, set-in stains and odours, not just fresh accidents.
The enzymatic action does need a little time to work – it’s not an instant fix, but it’s a genuinely more permanent one than a masking spray.
Cons
- Best suited to fabric and carpet – not marketed as a hard-surface product the way some multi-surface cleaners are.
- Like most enzymatic cleaners, needs the area to stay damp for a period after application for the enzymes to fully work, which takes slightly more patience than a quick spray-and-wipe.
Neither issue is a dealbreaker – they’re just worth knowing before use so expectations match how enzymatic cleaners actually work.
Who It’s For
Best suited to anyone dealing with genuine pet odour or urine stains in carpet or fabric who wants the smell actually eliminated, not just covered up for a few hours.
If you need something for a wider range of household surfaces rather than just fabric and carpet, Bactador’s broader surface compatibility is the more relevant pick.
Odor control is one part of a wider home care routine — see our reviews of cordless clippers, joint supplements, and flea & tick treatment for more.
Alternatives Worth Considering
- Bactador Enzyme Cleaner – an Amazon’s Choice pick in its own right with over 13,000 ratings, marketed for broader household and pet-care use rather than just carpet and fabric. A solid choice if you want one spray that covers more surfaces around the home, not just soft furnishings.
- Nature’s Miracle – the budget pick and a long-trusted name in this category, though several reviewers have noted a recent formula change that’s made it somewhat less effective than earlier versions – still a reasonable low-cost starting point for a fresh, minor accident.
Final Verdict
For genuinely eliminating pet odour rather than just covering it up, Simple Solution Extreme is the strongest all-round pick, backed by the largest customer track record in this category. Bactador is the better choice if you want one product that also covers harder household surfaces, not just carpet and fabric. Nature’s Miracle remains a reasonable budget option for fresh, minor accidents, though it’s worth knowing its formula isn’t quite what it used to be.
